Seattle Trip

The Dude arrived in Seattle, WA to spend some time with Chris. He has a huge road trip planned and has been kind enough to invite the Dude along for the fun. The route for the trip will take Chris through Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California, and Oregon making big loop back to Seattle.

Pictures were uploaded on June 25th. I will quote Chris for the captions. There is a lot of information and I really don't feel like paraphrasing.

"The dude at Safeco Field. Home of the Mariners. Formerly the King Dome if you're that old."

"The dude visits Pioneer Square. It's the old part of Seattle from back in the Pioneer/Gold Rush days. It's also where the Underground Seattle tours kick off. Seattle was built on top of itself back in the day."

"Dude at the Lusty Lady. A Seattle landmark. Finally going out of business. One of the few establishments of it's type to be owned and operated by a woman." (Tab-the Dude seems to be getting really attached to these types of places.)

"Taken out of the sunroof of my roomies car, it's the Pikes Place Market. I hear this is one of the more famous landmarks ya'll would have heard about."

"And here is the SANITARY Public Market. Yeah. Right next to Pikes Place. I think maybe they sell Napkins. You know? But serious. I've always wondered about the place, but never gone into it."

"We finally get to the Seattle Center, home of the 1965 (I think) Worlds Fair. The electronic money takers for parking were broken, so we got to park for free! YAY!! But here's dude chillin' at the base of the Space Needle!"

"Here are a couple shots of The Dude at EMP (Experience Music Project) which houses Music and Sci-Fi exhibits. The first shot includes the Monorail."

"Here's The Dude at the Pacific Science Center where they have 2 IMAX theaters and MANY rotating, hands on, science exhibits. I spent a LOT of time their as a kid. The spires are seen from MANY blocks away and are a remnant of the Worlds Fair."

"The Dude at one of the theatres spread around the Seattle Center that gets all sorts of shows put on at. Especially during "Bumbershoot" our big musical festival, where last time I went I saw the Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Ramones, and Mel Torme. Also home to "Folk Life" which was our Folk Music fair, but it's turned into more of a World Music fair now."

"Dude at the fountain. During summer theirs usually kids playing all over it. But it's not summer here yet this year, so only a few kids."

"The Dude at the rear entrance to the Center House. Main building in the park, lots of shops and places to eat in their. I've always just really liked the eagles."

"Here is The Dude at Gasworks Park, overlooking Seattle and Lake Union. Gasworks Park used to make Synthetic Natural Gas back in the day. Some time after shutting down it was turned into a park."

"Same spot but in the background is the Aurora bridge. Locally known as Suicide Bridge. One of the highest suicide rated bridges in America. Not a very good pick I'm afraid though."

"One of my fave shots of the day. Its one of the old Gasworks buildings in the park, looming big and menacing against the encroaching rain clouds."

"Here's another shot of the Seattle Skyline, with some Geese in the water and the sun setting rather nicely."

"This is a local favorite land mark. It was built under a bridge. The VW bug in his hand is REAL. That's The Dude, sitting up on his knuckle. The big guy is The Freemont Troll, and lives, of course, in Freemont. A burb of Seattle."

Wonderful pictures, Chris. I can't wait to see more from your trip.
